Terms of service
Last updated: September 26, 2026. These terms are a contract between you and Loopfunder ("Loopfunder", "we", "us"). Using loopfunder.com, backing a project, or creating one means you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't use the site.
- Backing is a purchase that pays for the next version of a project. It is not a donation, an investment or a pre-order.
- You are charged when you back. There is no funding goal and no deadline.
- $15 of every $100 is Loopfunder's fee, payment processing and hosting included. Any creator share is shown before you pay; the rest pays for the next version.
- Refunds on request within 14 days of backing, and for everyone if a project is cancelled.
- What a backer gets depends on the kind of project and is shown before you pay. No project promises a finished product, a date, or anything physical.
1. What Loopfunder is
Loopfunder is a site where people back games, apps, films and designs while they are being made. A project is built one version at a time, with AI tools doing much of the work in public. Backers pay now, and their money pays for the next version. Some projects are made by the Loopfunder studio; others by independent creators.
Loopfunder provides the site, the build tools, the public record of each version, and payment processing through Stripe. Loopfunder does not employ creators and does not guarantee any outcome.
2. Accounts
You need an account to create a project. You can back a project without one, using only an email address for the receipt. Accounts are handled by Clerk; you can sign in with email, Google, or GitHub. Creators must connect a verified GitHub account before launching, because the run publishes to a repository under that account.
You must be at least 18 years old to back or create a project, and old enough to form a binding contract where you live. You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us at support@loopfunder.com if you think someone else is using it.
3. Backing a project
When you back a project you make a purchase that pays for its next version. Specifically:
- It is a purchase, not a donation, investment, or pre-order. What you get is shown on the project page and at checkout before you pay. For a game: every new build the day it lands, your name in the credits, and a vote on what gets built next. For an app: early builds, a vote on the next feature, and your name in the credits. For a film: each new cut first, your name in the credits, and a vote on the next episode. For a product, hardware or object design: design updates first, a vote on the next change, and founder-list priority if it is ever made. You do not receive equity, a revenue share, or a reward tier.
- Nothing finished is promised. Backing never promises a finished game, a shipped product, uptime or support, a finished series, or a date. Backing a design is support only: it is not a pre-order, and nothing physical will be made or shipped because of it.
- You are charged immediately. Your card is charged when you back, in US dollars, through Stripe. There is no funding goal or deadline, and your money is not held back waiting for one.
- Where the money goes is shown before you pay. Loopfunder keeps a 15% fee. On a Loopfunder studio project, all of the money goes to Loopfunder to build the next version. On a creator's project, the rest goes to the creator through their own Stripe account, to build the next version. Nothing in these terms makes a creator our agent.
- Amounts are your choice. $5, $15, $50 or any amount from $5 up. There are no tiers.
- No quality outcome is guaranteed. Much of the building is done with AI tools. A version may be rough, broken or unfinished, and a project may stop. You accept that when you back.
4. Plays and coins
Some games need plays to enter. Plays come with backing: one for every play price you put in (for example, $15 at $1 a play includes 15 plays). Each play gives you access to the game for 24 hours. Plays bought before backing replaced them stay valid.
Coins are granted for playing and for backing a game. They rank players and vote on the roadmap. They cannot be bought, withdrawn, transferred, exchanged or redeemed for anything of monetary value. We may reset or discontinue coins. Coins are not property.
5. Refunds
Refunds on request within 14 days of backing, and for everyone if a project is cancelled.
- Within 14 days: write to support@loopfunder.com with your receipt and we refund what you paid, including our fee, to the original card. Plays that came with that backing end when it is refunded.
- If a project is cancelled: everyone who backed it is refunded in full, whenever they backed. You don't need to ask.
- After 14 days, on a project that continues: no refund, because the money has already paid for work on the next version.
Refunds usually reach your card within 5 to 10 business days. If Stripe cannot return money to the original card, we will contact you at the email on the receipt.
6. Fees
Loopfunder keeps 15% of every purchase. That covers payment processing, hosting, storage, the public record, and us. Where a creator share applies it is shown before you pay; lower creator shares apply immediately and raises are announced for 24 hours before they affect new purchases. Each purchase keeps the split shown when it was sold.
7. Creating a project
If you create a project you agree that:
- You will describe honestly what you want built and what the bar is. You may not present someone else's work as the thing you are building.
- You own or have the rights to the reference and pitch material you upload. Reference frames from a game you don't own must be marked private: they are used only by the build tools, never published. You will not upload infringing content. You are responsible for the rights to both public and private material.
- Backing for your project is paid to you through your own Stripe account once you finish payment setup, less Loopfunder's 15% fee. It is purchase revenue, not equity or revenue share for backers. You will honour what backers were shown (updates, credits, votes), you accept the refund rule in section 5, and you will not ask for or accept money from backers outside Loopfunder in connection with the project or promise equity, revenue share, or reward tiers.
- You will connect a GitHub account you control; the run publishes there and the repository is yours.
- You may tick "open source on ship." If you do, the repo goes public when the project ships under a license you choose. If you don't, the repo stays yours and backers still get early-access builds.
- You may send notes to the build during a version. Notes are advisory. You may pause or stop at any time; cancelling the project refunds everyone who backed it.
- You will not attempt to reach the build tools other than through the tools we provide, exfiltrate their credentials, or use them to build anything under section 10.
- You are not our employee or contractor.
8. How projects are built
A project is built one version at a time. Backing pays for the next version; there is no goal to reach before work starts and no deadline. Much of the work is done by AI tools we operate, with the creator steering. Each version is published on the project's build log when it lands.
We make reasonable efforts to keep work moving, but AI providers rate-limit, go down, and change. A version may be slow, fail and retry, or not happen at all. There is no promised date for any version.
9. Who owns what
- The creator owns the output: the code, assets, builds, and releases the machine produces for their project, to the extent they can be owned. We claim nothing in it. Note that some jurisdictions limit copyright in AI-generated material; that is between the creator and the law, not something we can change.
- The creator grants Loopfunder a worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, display, reproduce, and distribute the project page, the pitch material, the project's captures, logs, reviews, builds, and releases, on loopfunder.com and in our own material about Loopfunder, for as long as the project exists on the site and in archives of it afterwards. Backers and the public may view and play what is published.
- Backers own nothing in the output and receive no licence beyond viewing and playing what is published. If the creator releases the project under an open licence, that licence applies.
- Loopfunder owns the site, the harness, the method as we implement it, and everything on loopfunder.com that isn't a creator's project. You may not copy or scrape it beyond what a browser does.
10. Content rules
You may not create a project, upload material, or steer a run toward anything that: infringes someone else's copyright, trademark, or rights of publicity; is sexual content involving minors or non-consensual sexual content; harasses, threatens, or defames a real person; is malware, a scam, or a tool for fraud; promotes violence against people; is gambling with real money, securities, or anything that requires a licence you don't have; or breaks the law where you are or where we are. We decide what crosses the line and we will tell you when we act. Repeat or serious violations end your account and refund your backers.
11. About the AI
Much of the building is done by AI models from third-party providers, running inside tools we operate. You understand and accept that:
- The models may produce code that doesn't work, art that doesn't match, and text that is wrong. The automated reviews are also done by models and can be wrong.
- The output may resemble existing works. The creator is responsible for reviewing what was built before using it commercially.
- The models never see backer payment details or account data. They see the goal, the bar, the repository, and the nudges.
- Model providers receive the prompts and repository content as part of building; see the privacy policy.
- Loopfunder is not the author of the output and makes no claim about its originality, fitness, or safety.
12. Everything is public
The point of Loopfunder is that the work is visible. For every project, the following are public: the project page, the goal, the public reference material, every version's headline and captures, the build log, the repository, and the releases. Do not put anything in a goal, a nudge, or the public references that you are not willing to have on the internet permanently. Private reference material and the creator's account details stay private.
13. Pausing and stopping
We may pause or end a run, remove a project, or suspend an account when we reasonably believe it violates these terms, is being used for abuse, creates legal risk, is being used to attack the machine or a third party, or when a provider outage makes continuing impossible. When we cancel a project, everyone who backed it is refunded under section 5. We will explain what we did on the project page unless the law prevents it.
14. No warranty
Loopfunder is provided as is. We do not promise that the site will be available, that any version will start or land on a particular day, or that a project will be finished, that the output will be useful, original, or safe, or that model providers will keep their prices or their uptime. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
15. Limits on liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Loopfunder and the people who work on it are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of your use of the site or any project on it. Our total liability to you for anything arising out of these terms or the site is limited to the greater of the amount you paid Loopfunder in the twelve months before the claim, or $100. Some places don't allow these limits; where that's you, they apply as far as they can.
16. Indemnity
If you are a creator, you will defend and indemnify Loopfunder against claims arising from your project: the material you uploaded, the rights you said you had, the output you chose to distribute, and your breach of these terms. If you are a backer, you will indemnify us against claims arising from your misuse of the site.
17. Ending your account
You can close your account at any time by writing to support@loopfunder.com. Backings you have made stay in force, including their refund rights. Projects you created either continue under these terms or are cancelled and everyone who backed them is refunded, your choice. Published versions remain public because backers paid for them. We can close your account under section 13.
18. Disputes and law
Write to us first. Most problems are a refund or a misunderstanding and we'd rather fix them than argue. If we can't resolve something within 30 days of your first email, either of us may bring a claim. Governing law and venue are [to be set]. Until they are set, email support@loopfunder.com and we will try to resolve the issue directly. Each of us waives any right to a jury trial and to participate in a class action, to the extent the law allows.
19. Changes to these terms
We will change these terms as the product changes. When we do, the effective date at the top changes and, for changes that matter, we email account holders and post a notice on the site at least 14 days before they take effect. Backing already paid keeps the refund terms that were in force when it was paid. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept it.
